Using an eSIM when travelling between countries

Check your device, destination coverage and activation rules before choosing a travel data plan.

Check the exact device

Find the model and regional variant in the phone’s settings, then check eSIM support and whether the device is network-unlocked. A familiar model name alone is not enough: variants and carrier restrictions can differ. Check the provider’s compatibility list before paying.

Separate data from calls and messages

Read whether the plan supplies data only or includes a telephone number, calls or SMS. Keep access to any existing number you need for bank verification or account recovery. A data plan does not automatically receive verification texts addressed to your normal SIM.

Read when validity begins

Providers can start validity on installation, activation or the first connection to a supported network. Follow the instructions for the chosen plan. Keep the installation information securely and do not delete the eSIM while troubleshooting unless the provider confirms it can be reinstalled.

Prepare before arrival

Save the provider’s setup steps and support route while you have reliable internet. Check which SIM should handle mobile data and whether the travel eSIM needs data roaming enabled. Watch the settings of your home SIM separately so it does not generate unintended roaming charges.

Türkiye needs an availability check

Airalo reports restrictions affecting access to international eSIM platforms in Türkiye. Check the current ability to purchase, install, manage and obtain support for your intended service before relying on it. Device compatibility and destination network coverage are separate from website or app access.

Match the plan to the trip

Estimate data for maps, messaging and calls over the internet, then read fair-use, hotspot and top-up conditions. Keep a backup contact method. A cheap plan that cannot be activated when needed is not useful value.
